Its all about the climb
I have spent a good portion of my 31 years on Earth wanting to be really good at something. I can say there are quite a few things I am pretty good at, there really isn’t one set thing I am overly skilled at to the point where I would consider myself a professional. The main reason for this is a combination of imposter syndrome and fear of rejection. This can be frustrating for multiple reasons. I am a highly driven person and I desire to build a name for myself in some regard, I also wish to create something to leave behind once I am gone, and I also am a human trying to navigate this crazy planet just like the rest of you.
So, starting this journey in the world of Professional Photography, with myself behind the camera, I am allowing myself to begin. I am allowing myself to go through these start up years and learn everything I can along the way. I have to go through it to get to whatever comes beyond that. There is no rush, because all there is, is now. So I have to ask myself, what can I do right now? What tools are available to me right now and how can I use them to grow in some way? Sometimes I really have to get creative, sometimes I use myself, or the world around me. Making the mundane cinematic is a true art, one I try to hone a little more each and every day.
Each shoot is a beautiful moment for me now that I go into each one knowing it wont be perfect, but that I will be taking away some valuable knowledge and experience. I end up getting much better results from my shoots when I am relaxed and don’t allow myself to feel overly pressured to get a certain shot. Its often better to just go with the flow in a shoot. I know this can be somewhat difficult, but when you keep pushing for a certain shot and you continue to get sub par results, at a certain point it is better to walk away and try something new. Rather than force something that isn’t working, try a new shot, pose, shift the way the light is hitting, etc. to open the creativity a bit more. I get some of the best shots in those on the spot thoughts.
I am having a lot of fun and learning so much on this journey. I plan to talk about more detailed things in the future, but for now this is a brief post about my mindset at this point in my journey and setting my intentions moving forward. I will hopefully be posting more about specific shoots and things I have learned along the way, also things I will learn in the future, trips I will be taking and photographing, possibly trips I have taken in recent past, we shall see what comes of this portion of my little website. I will use it to somewhat document my journey and who knows where things will go from here.
Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more!
